Favourite of the season Trips in Latvia Very good

Hortus Camping “Viesu nams” (LAT) 16.07.2020

I drove 40 km north from this previous pointless place and a completely different picture opened up. On the west coast of Latvia, it doesn’t matter where you stay, there is a sandy beach everywhere.

The only difference can be in the quality of accommodation. It is a bit more expensive here than in previous stops, but the service offered makes up for it completely.

The price asked here was 20 EUR per night and 7 EUR per person (this still needs to be specified, because the money is taken here when you leave).

The price includes unlimited electricity, refueling the trailer with water, use of the shower and toilet. From the asphalt road that leads from Venstpils to Liepaja, after turning off, you only need to drive along gravel for a couple of hundred to three hundred meters. The Latvian family spoke Russian and I didn’t try any other languages.

The caravan and camping site is large and is located on an area of about 4 hectares, which is located directly on the beach on one side. The beach line at this facility is about 150 meters. As usual in this area, you need to go down from the shore to the sea, and a staircase has been built for this.

The beach has clean water and white sand, as you can see in the pictures. The toilet and shower are decent – this means that to go to the toilet, you don’t have to sit on a hole cut into a table, but ceramic toilet bowls are installed. What’s interesting about this place is that the trees in the area are planted in such a way that they form squares, within which you can park. This creates some privacy, because the territory of each parking space is as if separated. The squares are so large that at least two trailers or cars can definitely fit there.

The pine trees that separate the territories have their tops cut off at a height of about 3 meters, which ensures that you can also sunbathe in the parking lots. At the same time, the cottages or tents are in the shade, as the parks are next to the trees. Some territories are equipped with campfire sites and furniture for sitting. The beach is for parking with cottages for drivers. We parked under the pine trees, because we have already seen enough of the sea view 🙂 . The nearest store is about 15 km away in the settlement of Pavilosta, where you can withdraw money from an ATM and stock up on everything you need by visiting TOP-I stores. We haven’t seen a gas station around here yet (we came from Liepaja), so it’s worth refueling before coming here just in case. Ventspils is not far from here and in fact there shouldn’t be any particular problems with that. We will definitely come back here 🙂
