Good Positive Trips In Italy

Area Sosta Camper “Paradiso” (ITA) – 22.06-26.06.2025

Salo is a city located in northern Italy on the shores of Lake Garda with an interesting history and the recorded history of the city begins in the ancient Roman era.

When I briefly researched the history and present of Salo, an interesting fact emerged – namely, the city of Salo is a seismically quite active area where the last earthquake, measuring 5.1 on the Richter scale, occurred in 2004.

On the edge of the city, right next to the lakeside promenade, is the Sosta Camper “Paraiso”, where we decided to spend the first days of our 2025 summer vacation.

The parking spaces for camper vans are located on the side of the mountain, on several levels, and there are around 60 parking spaces.

All parking spaces are equipped with electricity and are located on a solid, hard surface covered with gravel.

The owners of the campsite have an interesting rule – according to the letters, it is not allowed to open the awnings and install your own necessities (chairs, tables, etc.) on the territory, which none of the parkers adhered to.

Entering the territory is like any regular paid parking lot. When you drive up to the barrier, you get a ticket from the machine indicating the start of parking (do not lose the ticket under any circumstances, because you will need it if you want to drive away from the territory and pay for parking) and choose a place you like to park.

During our stay, the price per night was 26 EUR, which included the electricity connection to the caravan, disposal of garbage, use of the toilets, use of the area intended for washing dishes, unlimited filling of the car’s water tank and disposal of waste water. There were 2 shower rooms on the territory, but you had to pay for their use with coins in a machine on the wall of the shower rooms. I did not use the shower rooms (I showered in the car) and therefore I cannot say how much you have to pay to wash yourself there.

There were 3 public toilets, one of which was intended for women and two for men. The women’s toilet was equipped with a pot, while the men’s toilet had a unique solution (see pictures). Because of this unique solution, most people used the women’s toilet, because such satisfaction of bodily needs in a hole is more typical of oriental peoples and is relatively unfamiliar to Europeans. The sanitary facilities were cleaned every morning and all the rooms were clean and tidy.

The caravan park is not allowed to be used by cars with caravans – only cars and campers are allowed to park.

The park is located right on the shore of the lake and those who want to enjoy the beach, need to take a short walk of about 100 meters and you will be on the lake shore, which is covered with fine sand-like gravel. There is also a restaurant/bar on the same beach, which offers perfectly acceptable food and of course various drinks.

The nearest larger grocery store, Italmark, was 1.2 km away by bike along the road and it is a grocery store with a really large selection.

You can walk around the town using the lakeside promenade. The main square is about 1.5 km away by walking along it. It is definitely worth visiting the old town of Salo, which is crisscrossed with both narrow and wide streets, lined with beautiful architectural buildings.

The main street of the old town is full of shops offering both local and common goods and restaurants offering a variety of Italian food.

A regular ferry leaves from the town’s port, providing connections to other towns on Lake Garda.

The downside is that the town is not particularly bicycle-friendly. The entire lakeside promenade, which is wide enough to accommodate bicycles, is marked with signs prohibiting cycling. In fact, the police turn a blind eye if you drive along the promenade at walking speed (I experienced this myself), but if you start speeding through the city like a madman, you can be sure to get a fine.

Overall, both the caravan park and the city left a positive impression and we will definitely visit it again.
