“Hundi Holiday House” in Hiiumaa (EST) 31.07.2020

Low-growing junipers and pines, sandy beaches, rocky meadows, beautiful houses along the roads – all this characterizes Hiiumaa and there is certainly much more that characterizes this island.

Regarding my visits here, I can say that I have only been to Hiiumaa 3 times in my 49 years of life.

The reason for so few visits can be said to be that it is a relatively long drive from my permanent residence – 350 km.

This time it is the third time and I am spending it at an accommodation called Hundi Puhkemaja.

Hundi Holiday Home is located 22 km from Heltermaa Harbour, right next to Kärdla Airport. You can get to Kärdla from here by driving only 3 km north.

The nearest shop where you can buy groceries and other things is also located in Kärdla and about 3.5 km away.

All the surrounding roads are asphalted here, and to get to the holiday home you only have to drive 100 meters along a well-maintained narrow gravel road.

The farm yard spreads over an area of about 2-3 hectares, which is mowed and covered with beautiful juniper bushes.

There is also a small ornamental garden in the yard, consisting of various ornamental shrubs, which only adds to the design of the yard.

In addition to the accommodation, there is a sizable barbecue area in the yard where you can hold even a larger birthday party or other similar events.

The barbecue area is equipped with a kitchen, grill, smokehouse and of course tables and chairs. You can also rent a sauna, which is also relatively large.

As I described above, junipers grow in the mowed yard, under which you can also have a picnic, just sit or sunbathe.

The sea is also relatively close here, but I haven’t been to see it yet, because my interests are a bit different this time.

I arrived with the intention of attending a birthday party. Otherwise, they probably don’t have any parking spaces for the cottages planned here, but I was let in here anyway, because all the accommodations had to be closed.

Of course, anyone interested in driving a cottage can call and ask if they’ll let you park, because there would be room for about 10 cottages here, which wouldn’t make anything worse.

I got electricity connected and could also get water if needed, but I don’t feel like running around with canisters here – there’s an outdoor kitchen where you can wash dishes and do other things. In any case, the place is beautiful and I’ll definitely come back here 🙂
