Lake Võrtsjärv can be called the third largest sea in Estonia, because considering our scale, it can be said that a body of water of 270 square kilometers is not small at all.
The lake, which is one of the warmest bodies of water in Estonia all year round, is surrounded by various holiday resorts, and one of them is Kiviranna Holiday Home/Camping, which is located on the northeastern shore of Lake Võrtsjärv, in Tartu County, Elva Rural Municipality.

Driving from Tartu to Viljandi, I have driven past this place many times before and seen signs pointing to the campsite, but I have never turned in here.
When I see the overgrown end of the road, I get the impression that there is something in the bushes here, but this is a mistaken opinion.
When driving off the Tartu-Viljandi highway, a decent gravel road runs for about 200 meters between deciduous forest and bushes, and after that, a completely different view opens up for those driving in.

On an area of about 3-4 hectares, there is a neatly mowed lawn, on which there is a beautifully designed garden with many ornamental plants and a fairly new building.
The building consists of the main building where the reception is located, two 4-person camping houses, one 8+-person camping house, a sanitary building with four properly equipped toilets and shower rooms and an outdoor kitchen.
To the north of the houses, there is a caravan parking lot with a camping area.
Next to the large eight-person house, there is a stationary tent where larger gatherings can be held.

You can rent an igloo sauna on the lake shore for 20 euros per hour.
There is a large yard between the houses, where there is a volleyball court, a children’s playground and a spacious recreation area.
There is also a swimming pool in front of the reception, the right to use which must be specified.
The beach here is gravel, but when you go into the water from the boat jetty, the bottom of the lake has been deepened and it is sandy.
This whole place is characterized by good taste, cleanliness and order, which is not very often found in other accommodations on the shores of Võrtsjärv.
Information about renting houses can be found on the institution’s website.

Parking with a caravan cost 15 EUR per night, plus a fee of 5 EUR per person.
The price includes parking the caravan, use of the toilet and shower facilities, refueling the caravan with water, waste water disposal and use of the outdoor kitchen.
You can rent boats and try to catch fish in the boat canal, if you are interested.
Anyone traveling here should stock up on mosquito repellent just in case, because there are still mosquitoes and midges here seasonally… although they didn’t bother me much.
We will definitely come back here.
